Dear Panic Monster,
You may have my attention after a particularly rough day, but I think I have you beat. It started with part of my oven falling on my hand that ended up with me in the Emergency Room – hyperventilating. My hand is all better, stuck full of drugs and relieved of it’s swelling it is the only thing that feel alright right now. OCD sucks, I know there are worse things but I will be damned if I can think of them right now. Thank God for Dragon Dictate. So, to calm my troubled mind here is a list of my favorite authors from A to Z.
- Peter Abrahams
- Christopher Buckley
- Patricia Cornwell
- Joan Didion
- Dave Eggers
- Gillian Flynn

Ah…sweet release. Just thinking about ole curmudgeonly Maugham makes me feel so much better! I never noticed that my authors are almost exclusively male and I find that rather odd, maybe it is time to give some female writers a bump on my “to read” list.
So friends and neighbors, do you have any favorite authors? The ones that make your toes curl, your heart race or quite your mind? If so, I am dying to know!
Morning/evening! Just wanted to let you know that I loved this post. I too would be lost in a world without lists 😉 I’ll be back later with a list of authors. 🙂
Excellent, I am always interested to see who people like to read. Cannot wait to see your list!
Terry Pratchett is my all time favourite author 🙂
His way of thinking about things has influenced mine tremendously, including no longer fearing Death 🙂
Really, how so?
You need to read his stories to really understand, but basically, Death, although an impartial entity, is more Human and Humane than most mortals…but…there are other characters in his stories that I admire as well, each for different reasons… 🙂
Okay, I’m intrigued. I’m gonna check this out, any suggestions on where to start?
All his Discworld Series Books have great stories, a lot of humour, wonderfully crafted (and recognisable) characters, including a different take on many entities from folklore, statements that make you think …. the list is endless.
It depends on what you like really, any clues?
I like everything 🙂 Thanks for giving me a place to start! I will let you know how it turns out!
So sorry to hear about your rough day! I appreciate you (and Dragon!) posting.
I thoroughly enjoyed your list. As an ex-independent bookstore employee, I feel qualified to say: very nice cross-section you have there!
Here are two choices of my own, since you asked.
I love the brutal simplicity and elegance of Dashiell Hammett, as well as his sardonic humor. And I am giggling like mad over the humorous novels of Harry Leon Wilson (will be posting a review soon.)
Keep up the great posts!
Thank you! I will have to look into those authors, there is nothing better than finding an author you didn’t know and fall in love with their work!
