The Scarf That Had Identity Issues – Free Pattern!

  • Written by: Rachel Folk (kinda)
  • Editing and Written Pattern by: Trevor Folk

So I showed progress on this scarf…um…last week? Anyway, the more I worked on it the bigger it got. I know, I know – it’s supposed to get bigger but this scarf seemed to get wider as well.

This is how it started:

So Far...

So Far…

And THIS is how it ended:

Chilling on my couch.

Yup. It’s THAT big!

By the time I bound off I didn’t know if it was 1) a scarf 2) a table runner or 3) a decorative couch cover. It was gorgeous by they way ( I used two strands of Caron Simply Soft in Pagoda) and I was really enjoying looking at it on the back of my couch.

Luckily my Mom fixed the situation by calling it a “drape” and took it quite literally off my hands. She had it in her car so fast I didn’t even get a picture of her wearing it. She has pure black hair (and since her hair color is real she has natural blue highlights) and it looked stunning on her – I should have gotten a picture dagnabbit!

I thought about seeing if I could actually sell a pattern, but since I can’t seem to work out the logistics of sizing I will share it for free. Knit at your will, sell the completed projects on Etsy – I don’t really care. I figure the pattern deserves to be out in the knitting universe.

So there you have it friends and neighbors, from my noggin to yours. I want to give a big round of applause for my husband who is putting up with me. (You’re welcome -TF). I also wanted to add that I am reading all of your wonderful posts but not commenting as much as I would like. No worries, Dragon Speak will be back eventually. I hope you like the pattern, it is the very least I can do to share because all of your blogs are making me a better knitter, spinner, crocheter and person.

Man that was cheesy – I’m out. 🙂 (Do people still say “I’m out?”. -TF)

Holy Crap Batman!!!!

I am on my way!

I am on my way!

I never post twice in one day but this is pretty exciting news for me, so I want to share. It has been a rough weekend and the week isn’t looking much brighter, but you have to find the joy in things or you’ll end up curled up in the fetal position, eating your own hair. This is good news friends and neighbors and I just couldn’t wait to share! Thank you so much for all your support and for reading my rants, I’m still awed!

OH HAPPY BLOGGING DAY!

Oh the giddiness! Just when the panic monster had all but beaten me down, I came home to a surprise that knocked my knitted socks off! My husband. Oh my beautiful, caring, loving, adorable husband had a few surprises in store for me.

Max, Addi-Clicks Lace and The Knitter's Life List!

Max, Addi-Clicks Lace and The Knitter’s Life List!

That’s right! My husband bought me the Addi-Click Short Lace Needles I have been lusting after…. forever! They’re incredible, there are not enough good things I can say about these needles. They make an arthritic hand feel like a fully functional one. The short needles don’t cramp my hands or remind me that my last three fingers (that usually unsuccessfully grasp the bottom of circular needles) don’t work because they don’t have too! I will fully admit that I gasped, screamed, squeaked, jumped, clapped (which is really funny to watch with my hand) and eventually cried when I saw these amazing needles in my home.

Me: They’re MINE? I get to keep them? Are you SURE? Where did you get them? How did you know? Why NOW? Why ME? Oh God… I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!

Husband: Honey, you’ve earned them. Oh…and there’s more.

If I was the swooning type, I would have hit the floor at this point in the conversation. It took a minute for my vision to clear so I could see the book on the table. The Knitter’s Life List was sitting right next to the needles and I had totally missed it! Thanks to iknead2knit for this wonderful book suggestion, it may be the only thing in the house that can pull me away from my fancy schmancy new needles! The book is full of all sorts of tips, ideas and my all time favorite thing, lists! You check off as you go and the whole thing just….well….takes me to my happy place.

With two baby showers this week, a full-time job, a niece I adore more than words and a husband that will support me right till the end I gotta tell ya, this has been an amazing day!
