I Want to KAL….Can You Help?

This feels horrible to do so close to 100 posts – although I think I will wait till 102 since my brother was responsible for 2 posts – but I am chomping at the bit.

I want to do a KAL!!!! I don’t know how or when to get in on this action and I am desperate to know how! You have all made so many beautiful things and I like nothing more than to try new things. I just have no idea where all this awesomeness comes from!

So, being the dimwit that I am, I am begging for any information on how to get into this. Anything would help, just point and I will follow!

Are you going to organise a knit-along? that sounds like a great thing to do 🙂

unfortunately, I can’t offer advice myself… I saw this book, not sure if of any help? http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2197804.Knitalong

There would seem to be many different ways to organise a KAL, some use ravelry groups, others simply post on the blogs, some use free patterns others not… just found a couple of examples http://www.p-hop.co.uk/?cat=9 http://www.craftsfromthecwtch.co.uk/2013/06/pick-boo-its-summer-shawl-kal-2013.html

I’m sure other people will come up with some good advice 🙂

No idea how to go about it, but I’d love to do one too. If you start one (and it’s not beyond my skill level), I’m in!

I think the next thing off my list is a garment. I’m thinking of doing baby garment though, since it’s smaller if I screw up it will be here to fix. 🙂

I’ve never actually done a “real” KAL. My friend from back home and I have done a few with just the two of us. We pick a pattern we both love and then send messages back and forth each day to give progress updates, pattern problems, etc. (with a bit of our non-knitting lives thrown in, too).

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, but I’m thinking I probably won’t be able to join in since my plate is a little full these days.

I think doing a knit along with a friend sounds like a good place to start – that way you can work around each others schedules. Maybe some day we won’t be so busy and we can do one 🙂

A KAL is one of the things on my list to do, but since I’m stuck on the Mantova Top for a while, I don’t think I’ll be joining a KAL group anytime soon. Once that project’s out of the way I can then consider. Can’t wait! I don’t have any info to share on KALs but I hope you manage to find a group to join 🙂

I think I am filling my plate a little full as well, but this is on my knitting bucket list – which makes it irresistible. I think that sometimes I forget Christmas is just a few months away 😉

I did a mystery knit a long on Ravelry last winter. We received part of the pattern each Monday. We didn’t know what the finished product would look like until the last installment. I’m the type who reads the entire pattern first and refers to the picture often so this was definitely out of my box. It was lots of fun.

I am looking forward to the idea of it, but like you I like to see the whole pattern at one time. I think that is why I am so keen on doing it, I want to push myself into uncomfortable territory 😉

Knit Picks has some KAL’s, I noticed one on socks that looks really interesting! They also have a Spin Along! I think I might have to check into this further myself! Hope you find just what you are looking for!

Ohh, a spin along sounds like a lot of fun! I am just starting out in that arena and a challenge could point me in the right direction. Do you have a link to that?

oohhh.. if you are organizing a KAL.. I’m up for it.. i will try my best to follow.. from my experiences with SAL (Stitch along), i see the organizers are doing something simple which many people will be able to follow.. also they make it a “Mystery” thing which the project will reveal itself later.. releasing week by week what the steps are.. I kind of enjoy this kind of arrangement.. I’ve not joined any KAL before.. but i can’t wait to have my hands onto one.. 😀

Thank you. WordPress directory…gesh, I should have thought of that. It just seems that every time I see one it has already started! Well, maybe I can organize one. That would be something new! 😉

I’m in a KAL right now, it’s super low key! The idea is to finish projects that you currently have on the needles, so that you can then reward yourself by casting on a million things. Here’s the ravelry group, feel free to stop by and even join in! It’s really casual and fun, and I think it’s a pretty good thing for a first KAL because there aren’t really serious deadlines and such.

It’s run by one of my favorite bloggers, Andi over at My Sister’s Knitter 🙂 If you haven’t seen her blog, you should totally check it out!

If you are hosting a knit along, count me in! If not, Martine from iMake podcast is currently hosting at least a couple on her ravelry group. Let me know if you want to host one together, we can probably get a few more bloggers involved. FUN!

I’m in my third KAL now. It’s a Craftsy workshop. The pattern and details are on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/silk-curved-scarf-craftsy-knitalong. There are lots of groups that do their own KALs. The one I’m in we were given the entire pattern, though previously KALs I’ve done did give only parts each week and it was fun before life interrupted my progress. The disadvantage to weekly pattern KALs is if you find yourself behind it is discouraging.

    Have fun on your search!

Ha! I found it and I love it, it even has directions to fit over my 42DDD chest! I could totally get into this – just need to check the price of the yarn.

Yup, I look like a blowup doll;) I’ve always been super self conscience about it that I never wear anything tight, I could fix the gauge though. For me – boobs are way overrated!!
                      Love the yarn!!

                      Don’t go away!!!!
I really, really like this – but for my first sweater I think it is a little ambitious for me. I do want to make more than one after all;)

I checked out the pattern, it’s not that bad…
I’ve not got anything else up my sleeve though on the jumper patterns.
I will be making entrelac this autumn even if it kills me….

I really like entrelac – especially in the round. I am just worried about the assembly of the final project – sewing is a weak spot for me.

I am not sure if you have found a Kal yet or even if this helps but I have just had an e-mail from lyon brand saying that they are holding a vote for the next cal. I thought they may well do KAl’s as well?

Seriously, if I don’t end up working a double tomorrow I will post pictures – I kinda feel like I am living in a burlesque house with all these ruffles hanging about! 😉
